Frequently asked questions

Q. What is the difference between “number height” and “tile height?”

A. The number height is the height of the numeral on the face of the tile. The tile height is the height of the entire tile itself. It is important that your number height be large enough to be easily seen from the street by guests, delivery or service persons, and most importantly, emergency service personnel.

The following guide should be helpful in determining the best choice for your home.

Q. Are the tiles weatherproof?

A. Silver Canyon Pottery house numbers are handmade to order from high-fired clays and glazes that are water and sun proof. They are frost tolerant and best placed in areas out of direct weather exposure in locales that may experience hard freeze conditions. Easily available silicone sealant may be applied to enhance weather protection in freeze prone areas.

Q. How do you hang the tiles?

A. Your order comes with hanging instructions. Tiles may be hung directly on wood or stucco surfaces. They may be ordered without hang holes for installation in new construction. Tiles without hang holes may also be mortared directly onto stucco or stone surface. The unique “finished edge” of the tile allows them to be mounted on top of a surface with ease and style.

Q. Can I get the tiles without the hang holes?

A. Yes. Each tile may be ordered without the hang holes.

Q. Can I get actual color samples of the available color selections.

A. Yes. Glaze samples may be ordered from our online store. Colors online may be different than actual colors for reasons beyond our control but our quality control measures create consistent glaze color results

Q. Do you do custom color work?

A. Yes, custom color work is available at a standard shop rate. Most often we can fairly easily create a complementary color selection for your project at a fairly reasonable cost. Exact color matching however is not always possible due to the unique nature of ceramic glaze composition. (we always do our best!)

Q. Why does it take up to 3 weeks to receive my tiles?

A. Each order is handcrafted to order in our studio on Catalina Island. Ceramic tile production processes involve time needed for pressing, drying, firing, and glazing. We do our best to get your order out as soon as possible. We will keep you posted if there are any delays in your order. If you need something faster please contact via our contact page and we will do our best to get it to you as quickly as possible.

Q. What if a tile breaks during shipping?

A. We pack our tiles very well to avoid breakage. If any tile breaks during shipping we will replace it for you as quickly as possible at no additional charge.

Q. What if I don’t like my tiles?

A. We offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee. If for any reason you don’t like your tiles simply return them to us and we will refund 100% of your charges including return shipping.
